2020 Board Message

An Important Message from the PGR Board
June 13, 2020

Dear Members of PG Retreat,

We recognize the pain our community is experiencing, and we hear you. We emphatically state that racism and wrongful discrimination have no place at PG Retreat. In these turbulent times, we remember our mission and we highlight that PG Retreat, as an organization, celebrates both our diversity and our shared experiences. PG Retreat is directed by and for its members, with the goals of fostering lifelong communities of support and enriching the lives of profoundly gifted children and their families.

We know that giftedness knows no boundaries and underrepresentation is an ongoing challenge in the gifted community at large. We deeply appreciate that profoundly gifted students of color and their families face additional challenges due to systemic racism in our country.

We are ready to have the difficult, necessary, and overdue conversations that will better position us to help heal the divisions facing our community and our nation. We invite all of our members to join the conversation. We have an opportunity and a responsibility to do this hard work in our community with intentionality.

PG Retreat values diversity and remains committed to our long-standing Statement of Expectations which focuses on diversity first and commits our members to creating a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. PG Retreat has committed to taking the following actions:

  • We are adding programming to Virtual PG Retreat related to diversity and communication.
  • We are re-energizing the existing Diversity Committee by inviting the membership to join and contribute.
  • We have committed, by unanimous agreement of the Board, to amend our Statement of Expectations to ensure greater inclusivity. Our current Statement of Expectations can be found here

PG Retreat is committed to listening to your voices, and we ask that you consider joining the Diversity Committee, applying for membership on the Board, and engaging as a volunteer in any way you can serve. PG Retreat is its members and we need all of our voices and talents now more than ever. Thank you for bringing your uniqueness to our community and for allowing PG Retreat to be a part of your lives.

Sincerely,

PG Retreat Board of Directors
